Verlee Dowd Jones, a graduate of Stetson University, is a retired business teacher-turned- artist.  Always experimenting
with different types of surfaces, she works with oil, acrylic,
colored pencil, and watercolor paints.  She specializes in
watercolor painting on various forms of Japanese Rice Paper.  She also enjoys decorative painting on wood, Masonite,
glass, and metal.  

She is an active member of the Mountain Regional Arts & Crafts Guild, Inc. and exhibits some of her work at ArtWorks in
downtown Hiawassee.  ArtWorks is sponsored by that guild.  She also is a member of the Valley River Guild and shows
her work at their gallery in Murphy, NC.  She is also Vice President of Cherokee Trail Decorative Painters, a chapter of the
Society of Decorative Painters.  She also belongs to the Mountain Arts Association.

A past student of the North light Art School, Verlee has taken numerous painting classes in oil, acrylic and watercolor
mediums with both local, national, and international teachers.

Her painting “Snow Forest in Fall” was featured n the December 2005 issue of
Watercolor Magic.  Her painting
“Decisions, Decisions” (a batik watercolor) was displayed in the “World of Art” Show in Mableton, Georgia in 2008, and
sold at the Bascom Center in Highlands, NC.  She also joins the exhibits at the Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris,
Georgia.  In 2011, Verlee's colored pencil painting "Ocelot" took a BEST OF SHOW ribbon at the annual Show &
Competition of Cherokee Trail Decorative Painters.

Painting pet portraits over the years, Verlee has won many blue ribbons for her acrylic, oil, an watercolor paintings on
many different subjects.  To date, this Florida transplant has favored her collectors, friends, relatives, charities, and
benefit auctions with over 700 paintings in 10 states.

From the intersection of Rt 76 and Rt 75 in front of McDonalds, turn north, following Rt 75/175 for about
2 1/2 miles.  Just after going over Bell Creek, at the next cross street,  turn left on Lower Bell Road
(large orange sign saying LOWER BELL RV PARK) and follow past the lake to Sims Road up the hill to
your left.  We are the third house on the left and the intersection of Rock Hill.
